A little bit of everything…

Steam comes to Mac…and it works well!

Portal is available free until May 24, 2010

Apparently the development team over at Valve have done a fantastic job of porting Steam to OSX, several of their source games are now available for download natively within OSX and the reception from the Apple community has been very warm.  Preliminary tests from people have shown the performance isn’t quite as high as Windows users get, but it’s close enough that the naked eye won’t notice until you start running benchmark programs and physically see the numbers…in other words, it’s damn good.  Another small buzz is that the reception from Apple has given them the confidence to also potentially port Steam to Linux, which, I can guarantee you would have a warm reception as well from the Tux crowd.  I haven’t been able to dig up any information on future games which are being ported specifically, however what you can currently get is available at http://store.steampowered.com/browse/mac

The list is pretty impressive considering what some users are currently used to having, and perhaps it will help other companies to start porting more titles towards OSX as well (We can only hope)  As well, Windows & Mac users can download Portal for free from Steam until May 24th, so you should grab it while you can – and before you ask, no this is not a trial version that will expire; you get yourself the full game to enjoy.
